Patricia Frances Sterling Moran, 83, of Bainbridge Island, died Aug. 22 while surrounded by her loving family after a three-year battle with cancer.
Pat was born in Tacoma on July 27, 1925, to Gaylord and Gladys Sterling, and spent her formative years in Ellensburg, where she graduated high school in 1943.
She attended the University of Washington, where she joined the Delta Delta Delta sorority and met her husband Reeves Moran. Reeves and Pat settled on Orcas Island where they raise five children and owned the Pioneer Insurance Agency of Orcas. In 1980 they moved to Bainbridge Island, where Pat was the office manager for Maurer-McGinnis.
On Bainbridge, she also volunteered at Children’s Orthopedic Guild and played bridge Tuesdays at the senior center. A member of Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church, she was an office volunteer and active many years with a monthly dinner group called the Mariners. She was the first woman invited to sing in the Bainbridge Men’s Quartet and had a passion for music. An eternal optimist and woman of faith, Pat was still rooting for the Seattle Mariners on her last day, even though they were down 9-1 in the third inning. She will be remembered as “one great gal” and will be missed by all.
She was preceded in death by husband Reeves, daughter Mary Katherine “Kitty” Moran and brother Gaylord Sterling Jr. She is survived by daughters Molly Wagner of Bainbridge, Patricia Moran-Hodge and husband Terry of Orcas Island, sons Sherman Moran of Poulsbo, Paul Moran and wife Jamie of Juneau, Alaska, brother John C. Sterling and wife Joyce of Renton. Grandchildren include Madison, Winslow, Melissa, Mesa and Stella.
Services will be held Sept. 13, at Grace Episcopal Church on Day Road at 1 p.m. Donations may be made to Children’s Orthopedic Hospital, Bainbridge Island Public Library, or the Orcas Island Public Library. Please sign the online guest book at: www.cookfamilyfuneralhome.com.
