The Boys &Girls Club of Bainbridge Island organized a special STEM Day (Science, Technology, Engineering &Math) last week for “Lights on Afterschool,” a nationwide celebration highlighting the impact that afterschool programs make.

With children out of school all day due to parent/teacher conferences, the Boys &Girls Club opened its doors extra early and staff led an exciting array of educational activities for the kids, from making cars out of food to building gliders, flying a drone and hypothesizing which candies would sink or float.

“I think the day really illustrated the incredible work done in programs like ours around the country and showcased what could be possible if budgets were a little bigger,” said Liam McEvilly, the program director for the club’s Bainbridge Island chapter.
