The Coast Guard and the Bainbridge Island Fire Department are searching the waters off Bainbridge Island after a swamped canoe was found adrift off the eastern shore of the island Friday morning.
A homeowner on Sunrise Drive reported the canoe just after 10 a.m. April 25.
Assistant Chief Luke Carpenter of the Bainbridge Island Fire Department said a paddle and a lifejacket were found in the swamped canoe.
The Coast Guard has been searching the area near Rolling Bay since the canoe was reported with a 45-foot response boat and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Port Angeles.
Marine 21, the Bainbridge fire department’s vessel, is also assisting with the search.
So far, the aluminum canoe has been found, but nothing else.
“We’re continuing the search,” Carpenter said.
Carpenter said there have been no reports of a missing person.
