Bainbridge boys bested by Sealth

BAINBRIDGE –  Despite some nice individual matches, the Bainbridge High varsity wrestling team came up short against the visitors from Franklin High Tuesday.

The final score was 48-25.

The visitors claimed wins in eight of the 14 matches — five by forfeit and three by pinning.

Only the 132-pound match was negated by a double forfeit.

Bainbridge’s Oleg Maguire claimed the first Spartan win of the night in the 126-pound match, claiming a 12-4 decision victory over Alan Chan.

Clay Wren pinned Franklin’s Julian Monroy Trueblood in 2:32 to seal up the 152-pound match.

BHS co-captain Aaron Jumpa pinned Jeremiah Matusalem in 1:40 to win the 160-pound match, and fellow co-captain Hague Bush locked down the 170-pound match with a solid 6-0 decision over Aidan Vlasidy.

Bainbridge also claimed one win by forfeit in the 285-pound match.

The defeat came just days after the Spartans hosted an impressively attended tournament, the 2016 Island Invitational. The squad’s next home match will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19 against Roosevelt.
