The Bainbridge Gear Grinders moved up to second place in the high school mountain bike standings after a strong showing last week.

The Gear Grinders, Bainbridge High’s coed mountain bike team, shot to second place overall after the May 5 race at 360 Park in Gig Harbor.

The Gear Grinders had nine riders in action on a very hot, dusty and technical course.

Anika Vroom made the podium in third place in her category for Bainbridge and claimed the overall leader’s jersey based on this year’s three races.

All of the Gear Grinders’ other racers rode hard including Lucas Weyand, Lydia Weyand, Soren Ferguson, Edward Wilson, Schuyler Westerhout, Stasi Burzycki, Albert Ragsdale and Dylan Karter.

The race was run by the Washington Student League, a program of Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance.

The season’s final race is on May 19 in Washougal.
