Soldier with Bainbridge ties earns medal

Army Staff Sgt. Kasumi K. Leonard has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal.

The medal is awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service or achievement while serving in a combat or non-combat area with the Army.

Leonard is a flutist assigned to the United States Army Field Band at Fort George G. Meade, Md. She has served in the military for three years.

She is the daughter of Mark Leonard and Izumi Kuroiwa of Santa Fe, N.M., and granddaughter of Robert Leonard of Bothell. She is the niece of Michael Leonard of Bainbridge Island.
