BAINBRIDGE – The Spartans overwhelmed Overlake 19-5 in girls varsity lacrosse earlier this week at Memorial Stadium.
The win preserved Bainbridge’s perfect season, and the winning streak now stretches to 11 victories in a row.
It was all eyes on five senior Bainbridge players Tuesday night as they were honored in a pre-game ceremony with their parents and coaches marking this as the last home game of the regular season. These seniors include Karsen Sahleen, Sonia Olson, Amy Willerford, Robin Hilderman and Katie Usellis — all starters for the undefeated Spartans.
Bainbridge went on the offensive right away, and led throughout the game against Overlake.
Both Olson and Sophia Hagstromer had five goals apiece with Hagstromer adding two assists.
Fellow Spartan Kiera Havill added four goals, while Hilderman contributed three goals and two assists. Sophomore Maggie Sweeney and Willerford each netted one goal.
Freshman goalie Thuy Lan Ortiz had 10 saves for an astonishing save ratio of 67 percent.
Bainbridge led in draws 17 to 8 with Sweeney getting five draws and Hilderman four.
There was an unusual number of ground balls. Hilderman grabbed five and Sweeney, Hannah Maroni, and Havill each got three. Sweeney also contributed three caused turnovers.
Allie Hill led Overlake with two goals and three draw controls; Maddie Home, Hayley Pothering, and Zoe Break each had one goal, and Pothering had 2 assists.
The Spartans close out their regular season when they take on Lakeside this Friday in Seattle.
