UPDATE | Tugboat on scene of disabled ferry Tacoma

The tugboat Lindsey Foss has arrived at the dead-in-the-water ferry MV Tacoma and will tow the vessel into Eagle Harbor.

The Tacoma has been sitting without propulsion power off the coast of Bainbridge Island since shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 29. The ferry was on its way to Bainbridge from Seattle for the 12:20 p.m. sailing when the vessel stopped and set anchor to avoid becoming beached.

The ferry MV Sealth from Bremerton was diverted from its route to pull the Tacoma away from the shore.

The tugboat Lindsey Foss arrived at the Tacoma just before 2 p.m.

Travelers on board the Tacoma have not been told when the ferry will arrive at the terminal on Bainbridge. Service has been halted on the route until the shipping channel is cleared.

Luciano Marano of the Review, a passenger on the Tacoma during the 12:20 p.m. sailing, said the attitude of travelers who have been delayed has ranged from irritated to amused.

The Tacoma was still outside Eagle Harbor just after 2 p.m. Tuesday. Three small boats from the Coast Guard have set up a security perimeter around the disabled ferry.
