Bainbridge swimming takes third at district meet

Bainbridge won three events to place third at the SeaKing District meet Saturday. The Spartans scored 171, five points behind second-place Lakeside. Mercer Island took first with 345.5 points.
Senior David Ortyn won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.35 seconds and took second in the 200-yard individual medley. Sophomore Andrew McCarthy took first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:43.54).
The Spartans’ 400-yard freestyle relay team of Ortyn, senior Cody Jenkins, McCarthy and sophomore Colin Chupik also took first with a time of 3:17.11.
The WIAA 3A state preliminary round begins at 1:45 p.m. Friday at King County Aquatic Center. Finals start at 10:15 a.m. Saturday.
