Bainbridge Youth Services has announced this year’s Unity in Community Awards, recognizing the peers, adults, and local organizations that make a positive impact on young people’s lives.

The awards give youth the opportunity to lift up the community members who inspire them through kindness, support, and genuine connection, per a news release. This year’s recipients are as follows.

Everyday Hero: Kaycee Taylor

Students describe Bainbridge High School teacher Mr. Taylor as a steady source of kindness and encouragement. One nomination shared, “Mr. Taylor constantly helps me and brings kindness. He lights up my day and is so funny. He teaches with expert compassion and intelligence.”

Best Peer Supporter: Chloe McCarthy

Recognized for her empathy and dependability, Chloe is the kind of peer who helps others feel seen and supported, the release says. As one student put it, “She is an amazing person, always watching out and supporting others, even when they don’t ask for help.”

Youth-Friendly Business: Jiffy Mart

A longtime favorite of island youth, Jiffy Mart in Rolling Bay continues to be a welcoming and trusted space for generations of young people, per the release. One nomination captured its community role: “My friends and I as well as kids all over the island, have been going to Jiffy Mart for years, and my dad went in the summers when he was a little boy. Not only do they support kids, make them feel welcome, and give them discounts on things our empty wallets can’t afford, they inspire us, talk with us, and treat us like adults.”

“BYS is proud to honor these outstanding individuals and organizations who help create a community where youth feel valued, seen, supported, and heard. Spotlighting their contributions reinforces just how much youth perspectives matter — and how each of us plays a role in fostering connection and belonging,” the release concludes.
