Community training
A training called From Curiosity to Connection: Honest Dialogue in a Time of Division will take place Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at City Hall.
The training helps communities explore racism, classism, and bias while building practical strategies for staying engaged, even when conversations become difficult or uncomfortable, per a news release. “Together, we’ll examine issues within our community and develop skills for truthful and respectful dialogue,” the release says.
A one-hour independent lunch break will occur at noon. The event will be facilitated by Healing Equity United, the same organization that conducted two Bystander Trainings for the city in the recent past.
Health officer recruitment
The Kitsap Public Health Board will begin recruiting for a new health officer in early December.
The local health officer is a medical doctor and public health expert appointed by the board to control and prevent diseases, enforce public health rules, and promote public health. Based on updates approved by the board Nov. 4, the health officer position will be part-time (24 to 32 hours per week) and will report to the health district’s administrator, per a news release.
Previous health officer Dr. Gib Morrow resigned from the health district in September. Dr. Herbie Duber is serving as interim health officer.
