Get ready to get your fungi on! IslandWood’s annual Mushroom Mania series is back.
Wild Mushroom Identification Walks: Explore the trails with seasoned foragers who will teach you how to spot and identify different species.
Two “Fungal Foray” options Oct 19: 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30–3:30 p.m.
Two “Fungal Foray” options on Nov. 9: 9:30–11:30 a.m. (designed for families with children age 6+), 1–3:30 p.m. (designed to walk deeper into our campus trails).
The Wild Table dinner: On Nov. 16, the mania culminates with a seasonally inspired dinner featuring wild mushrooms. Daniel Winkler, author of the book Fruits of the Forest, will share his knowledge of mycology, combining scientific facts with engaging stories and stunning photography, per a news release.
No Kings 2 protests
No Kings 2 protests, which are demonstrations against U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies and actions, are scheduled to take place across the country and in Kitsap County Oct. 18.
Listed below are the times and locations of the protests.
Bremerton – Manette Bridge, 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Bainbridge Island – Winslow Way & Highway 305 intersection, 10 a.m. to noon
Kingston – Mike Wallace Park, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Port Orchard – Bethel & Lund intersection, noon to 2 p.m.
Poulsbo – Waterfront Park, 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Weinfest
Weinfest, a celebration of unique German-heritage wines grown on Bainbridge Island, will be held from 2-5 p.m. Oct. 12 at Bainbridge Vineyards (8989 NE Day Road).
Enjoy live music, food vendors, a farmers market pop-up, trivia, scavenger hunt and more. Admission is free.
Free swing dance
There will be a free swing dance and lesson at Winslow Green Oct. 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The first 30 minutes are a beginner dance lesson. No partner required. The lesson is followed by social dancing to recorded music. The event is outdoors, so dress for the weather. The event will be canceled if there is lots of rain.

Meet Councilmember Deets
Bainbridge Island City Councilmember Joe Deets is having his office hours Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to noon at CUPS Espresso on 123 Bjune Drive SE in Winslow.
Everyone is welcome to come and meet with him to talk about city business.
Kids book festival
The 2nd annual Poulsbo Kids’ Book Festival will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 15 at North Kitsap High School.
Although Poulsbo is in the name, this literary event is for all families throughout Kitsap County and beyond, a news release says. 36 authors and illustrators, including Newbery Medalists and Honor winners, WA State Book Award winners and New York Times best-sellers, will be on hand to meet and inspire young readers. Kitsap Regional Librarians will help kids get library cards and create bookmarks. Young writers can create their own Zines with the WA Center for the Book. Pre-schoolers can enjoy music and story time with Ms. Judi and everyone can cheer the illustrators as they compete in Draw Wars.
Suzanne Selfors, a children’s book author herself and owner of Liberty Bay Books in Poulsbo, organized the festival with her son, Walker Ranson.
Admission is free. Children who bring a food item to donate to Fishline will get VIP admission to the event.

Consignment sale
Kids consignment store Just Between Friends is having its Bremerton sale Oct. 15-18 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds Pavilion, where hundreds of families will come together to shop, sell, and save on everything from clothing and toys to strollers and baby gear.
The business partnered with six local nonprofits to make sure unsold items and donations stay in Kitsap County, per a news release. Parents can earn extra income by consigning their items.
