Master Gardener tips for safer lawn

Master Gardeners obtain that title for a reason.

They are masters at creating lawns that are not only safer for your family, but safe for the environment as well.

West Sound Stormwater Outreach Group—which includes Kitsap County, Bainbridge Island, Poulsbo, Bremerton and Port Orchard — is providing free natural yard care events with the Master Gardeners.

The first will be April 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bremerton City Nursery, 912 Adele Ave.

Experts will offer free advice on keeping your yard after for your family, pets, wildlife and local waters. They will explain how to use natural products to accomplish that goal.

Webinars on the same type of information will take place April 29 from 10-11 a.m.; May 3 from 6-7 p.m.; and May 20 from 10-11 a.m.

Organic yard care will reduce harmful chemical exposure for the environment. Deals on such fertilizer are available through June 18 at Bremerton City Nursery, Bay Hay and Feed in Bainbridge and Vern’s Organic Topsoil in Poulsbo.

All the events are being put on by WSSOG. The agencies work to improve water quality by reducing pollutants in stormwater runoff, a major source of pollution in local waterways and Puget Sound.
