Museum fundraiser

The Bainbridge Island Historical Museum is having its largest fundraising event of the year, the Turn Back Time Gala: The Twenties, on Oct. 1 from 6-9 pm. at Wing Point Golf & Country Club, 811 Cherry Ave. NE.

Appetizers, dinner and drinks are included and the evening includes a 1920’s dance presentation, a live auction and a dessert dash.

Each donation to the Paddle Call will be matched up to $25,000 by an anonymous donor. The donor left the island 80 years ago when she and her family – along with hundreds of Japanese Americans – were sent to the internment camp at Manzanar, CA. She has fond memories of growing up on BI, and she has lifelong friends here.

The event sold out in its inaugural year, 2019 when it featured the Fifties. Due to COVID-19 BIHM has not had a second event until this year. Proceeds will benefit the museum and its mission to preserve and share the stories of BI. TV personality John Curley will be the auctioneer.

Tickets are on sale at the museum or online at www.bainbridgehistory.org.

WEAVE concerts

WEAVE has some concerts coming up Sept. 17 and Oct. 1.

The first one is Jovino Santos Neto Quinteto, a three-time Grammy nominee.

The other one is Let Her Lead.

Both concerts are at Rolling Bay Hall. Doors and the bar open at 6:30 p.m. with the shows starting at 7:30.

BIDA leader

Kelle Kitchel-Cooper has been named interim executive director of the Bainbridge Island Downtown Association.

She replaces Michael Goodnow, who left the position last month.

Kitchel-Cooper has had multiple director-level positions in private and nonprofit organizations in Kitsap County and BI.

She has expertise in public relations, tourism, communications and strategic planning. She will coordinate various activities to promote downtown and businesses, while BIDA continues looking for a permanent executive director.

Cruise-In

The final summer Classic Car Cruise-In hosted by Modern Collision set a record with almost 200 cars participating.

It raised $2,500, bringing this year’s total to $7,000 to support Helpline House’s Project Backpack, which serves kids in the community with back-to-school supplies.

Car wash

Brown Bear is looking to open a four-bay touchless car wash on Bainbridge Island.

It would also include four electric vehicle charging stations, according to the Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce weekly newsletter.

The location would be at High School Road and Highway 305.

The project is in the early stages with the city, as initial documents were only recently filed.

Wildsmith stars

Freshman Allie Wildsmith of Bainbridge Island has been named CGASPORTS.COM athlete of the week, presented by First Command.

Wildsmith, who plays for the Coast Guard volleyball team, hit .392, and had 41 kills, 19 blocks and six aces as the team started the season 5-0 for the first time since 2009.

She had a career-high 14 kills in a 3-1 win over Plymouth State at the Plattsburgh Tournament.
