Bainbridge High School principal Kristina Rodgers was arrested in Poulsbo Jan. 12 for allegedly driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol with a minor in the car, who is believed to be her child, per a Poulsbo Police Department incident report.

The arrest occurred at the intersection of Noll Road and NE Kevos Pond Drive around 10 p.m. Rodgers was released from custody Jan. 13, per the Kitsap County Jail roster, and is facing charges of DUI, driving with a suspended license, and reckless endangerment – domestic violence.

Bainbridge Island School District superintendent Amii Thompson confirmed Rodgers’ arrest in a letter sent out to families Jan. 13 and said she has been placed on administrative leave “while we take time to determine next steps. We are working on a plan for administrative coverage in the interim and will share details as soon as they are available. Out of care and concern for the Rodgers family, we ask for your patience and respect for privacy at this time while we work to gather additional information regarding this situation.”

The PPD report says Rodgers was initially pulled over for speeding, going 53 mph in a 35 mph zone. Upon contacting her, the officer noticed signs of intoxication, such as slurred speech and the smell of alcohol. Rodgers allegedly denied that she was drinking and refused to conduct any field sobriety tests, per the report.

Rodgers was then arrested and taken to the Poulsbo police station to conduct a breathalyzer test. She blew a 0.07 BAC, which is below the state’s legal limit of 0.08. The officer in the report said that if the test had been performed at the time of the traffic stop, which was over an hour earlier, it likely would have been over the legal limit.

“Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) both stated the average person dissipates alcohol at an average rate of 0.015 an hour,” per the report.

Rodgers has served as BHS principal since 2021 and was previously principal of Roosevelt High School in Seattle.
