Susie Burdick has left her position as executive director of Kid’s Discovery Museum after leading the museum for the past seven years, officials with the downtown Winslow attraction announced Monday.
“After seven fun and rewarding years at Kids Discovery Museum, I am heading on to my next adventure. Still a child at heart, I’ll always be a KiDiMu Kid,” Burdick said in a farewell letter.
Museum officials said Burdick will be a tough act to follow.
“Susie worked hard for the museum and was devoted to its mission. We will miss the talents she brought to us, as well as her many professional and community connections, especially those in the nonprofit and children’s museum world,” said Frank Magusin, the president of KiDiMu’s board of directors.
“Transition to new leadership will be a challenge for the museum, especially at this time of the coronavirus pandemic, but I am confident we will weather this challenge and use it as an opportunity to improve KiDiMu as a community resource for children and their caretakers,” he added.
Corinne Wolffe will serve as interim executive director of KiDiMu, in addition to her role as development director, to assist the board as it determines next steps for the long-term leadership of the museum and its future.
KiDiMu is a nonprofit experiential learning center for young children and serves 35,000 visitors annually, with most visitors coming from greater Kitsap County. The mission for KiDiMu is “To Spark Children’s Curiosity through Play and Experiential Learning” and the museum provides a destination for children and their caregivers to explore art, science, and culture through hands-on exhibits, daily art projects, cultural and scientific programming.
