The Bainbridge Spartans cruised through the first round of the Metro conference tennis tournament over Cleveland early this week at Bainbridge High.

Both boys and girls varsity teams won.

“Both our squads faced stiff and improved play in the singles,” said Head Varsity Tennis Coach Jennifer Anne Shorr. “Our doubles has been our strength and again came through big time.”

The BHS girls team won 3-2, while the Bainbridge boys were able to sweep Cleveland 5-0.

Bainbridge relied on Catherine Rolfes and Matty Dunham in the singles contests, and turned to Marianne Milander and Madison Clup, Jessica Pecunies and Jillian Albullarade and Lindsay Payne with Lena Klinkenberg in the doubles.

“Our boys had a fine day with,” Shorr added. “Eric Perkins coming back from a set down to win a compelling match in the singles. Asher Van Slyke took another win in singles.”

Sweeping the doubles were the Spartan duos of Ryan Wilson with John Tappan; Bjorn Stanley and partner Liam Welch; and Oscar Bray with Ellott Weyland.
