Island track team shines at Mountlake meet

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE – A pack of skilled Spartans had stellar showings at the recent Mountlake Terrace Invitational, at Mountlake Terrace High School, against track & field stars from a host of competing schools, including Anacortes, Archbishop Murphy, Bishop Blanchet, Ballard, Blaine, Everett, Juanita, Kingston, Lummi Nation, Lake Washington, Lynnwood, Marysville-Getchell, North Mason, South Whidbey and more.
The highlights among the island women were: Elizabeth Messinger’s eighth-place finish (28.66) in the 200-meters; the tremendous twosome of Emma Brundige (1:02.65) and McKenzie Korican (1:04.31) who claimed first and fourth place, respectively, in the 400-meters.
Anna Scott finished fifth (5:28.63) in the 1600-meters; junior Natalie Taylor set two new school records in both the 100-meter hurdles (17.25) and the 300-meter hurdles (49.57); the relay team of Capri Fain, Elana Dorsey, Reese Hill and Emma Brundige finished fifth (1:53.81) in the 4×200.
Emma Brundige, Anna Scott, Elizabeth Messinger and McKenzie Korican also took second place (4:19.21) in the 4×400 relay.
The best Bainbridge men of the day were: the dynamic duo of Carlo Ruggiero (2:00.76) and Carter Hall (2:02.13), who finished first and fourth, respectively, in the 800-meters; Elliott Windrope claimed an eighth-place finish (44.32) in the 300-meter hurdles; the relay team of Evan Kimmerlein, Carter Hall, Kyle Hammer and Carlo Ruggiero took the top spot (3:31.83) in the 4×100 event.
Powerhouse polymath Joe Tabisola managed a fifth-place finish (147-09) in the javelin event as well as a 10th-place finish (120-04) in discus.
