UPDATE | Bainbridge officer involved in police shooting placed on leave

The Bainbridge Island police officer who shot a man in downtown Winslow Wednesday has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Police Chief Matthew Hamner said the officer, who has not been identified, was put on leave Wednesday evening after the shooting.

The man who was shot has not been identified; he was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with gunshot injuries after Wednesday’s shooting.

A Bainbridge officer shot the man at the end of a police pursuit that began near Ordway Elementary and continued to the downtown area.

No officers or bystanders were injured in the incident, which left the west end of Winslow closed to traffic for much of Wednesday evening.

The shooting is currently under investigation by the Bremerton Police Department.
