Justin Neal, a Bainbridge Island playwright now living in California, will see his latest work “So Damn Proud” come to life at Seattle Repertory Theatre, courtesy of Northwest Playwrights Alliance.
The production will take the stage on Indigenous People’s Day, at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10.
Weaving nonlinear scenes surrounding a First Nations brother and sister, the play’s initial workshop took place at Native Voices at the Autry Museum as part of its New Play Festival in Los Angeles last year.
Featuring two of the most notable up-and-coming Native American stage and screen actors in North America, Lily Gladstone and Shaun Taylor-Corbett, “So Damn Proud” is directed by Macha Monkey co-founder Desiree Prewitt, with assistance from local choreographer Juliet Waller-Pruzan and filmmaker Melissa Woodrow.
The talented lineup of Seattle actors in the show includes Mark Fullerton, Meaghan Mary Halverson, Adria LaMorticella, Shane Regan and Sarah Winsor.
A Squamish writer, Neal’s “The Skins Game” (unproduced) was an official selection screenplay of the Beverly Hills Film Festival, Oaxaca Film Festival and Evolution Mallorca Film Festival.
Admission is free, and donations will be accepted. Seattle Repertory Theatre is located at 155 Mercer St.
