Ruth Moody, a Juno Award-winning songwriter and member of the folk trio The Wailin’ Jennys, will perform at The Dayaalou Center (159 Wyatt Way NE) at 8 p.m. Friday, May 20.

Moody’s most recent solo album, “These Wilder Things,” showcased a variety of styles, including the haunting gospel sounds of “Trouble and Woe” and the bluegrass-flavored “One Light Shining,” as well as the Celtic feel of “Life Is Long.”

She has also delved into darker indie-pop sounds, especially on the title track and “Pockets,” which features Mark Knopfler on guitar and vocals. In addition to her originals, she included a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark” and made it her own with a stripped-down, folk arrangement that transcends genre.

Critics have lauded her ethereal vocals, impressive multi-instrumentalism and her talent as a songwriter. Written with a maturity and wisdom that belies her age, her songs are timeless, universal, and carefully crafted, all sung with an intimacy and honesty that is unmistakably her own.
