Seattle author/designer/seamstress/photographer Sanae Ishida will be at Eagle Harbor Book Company at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28 to talk about her book “Sewing Happiness: A Year of Simple Projects for Living Well.”

When Ishida was diagnosed with a chronic illness and lost her corporate dream job, she thought her life was over. But these challenges ended up being the best thing that ever happened to her, because they forced her to take stock of her life and focus on the important things. “Sewing Happiness” is the delightful story of how Ishida redefined her priorities, reversed her illness and rediscovered her love of sewing and creativity. And it is also a delightful, compact and easily understandable pattern book for some of the projects that helped along her route to renewal.

The shop is inviting members of the Bainbridge Island sewing community to pick up a free copy of one of Ishida’s patterns at the bookstore and come to the event with their finished project, which will be displayed in the store during the First Friday Art Walk on May 6.

The pattern choices are: an origami pillow, a journal/book cover and/or an infinity scarf.
