Close finish in varsity gymnastics

BAINBRIDGE – Holy Names Academy narrowly escaped with a victory in varsity gymnastics after edging Bainbridge in a three-way matchup Tuesday that included Nathan Hale.
The Cougars claimed first with a score of 166.4. The Spartans came in a close second, with 160.78, and the Raiders were third with 125.6.
Holy Names popped to the top by winning first through fourth places in vault and also taking firsts in every other event.
The Spartans saw standout performances from Siqi Talley and Remi Rosencrans on bars, with Talley taking second place with a score of 9.2. Rosencrans was third with a score of 8.4.
She also tied for third on floor, with a score of 9.1, with teammate Ashleigh Cate.
Emma Chee won second place on beam (8.6); Rosencrans finished fourth in the event for Bainbridge (8).
In the all-around competition, Talley placed second with a total score of 34.15.
The loss was just the Spartans’ third this season, and Bainbridge’s meet record now stands at 6-3.
Next up for Bainbridge is a trip to West Seattle to take on WS and Chief Sealth on Friday, Jan. 22.
