Spartans advance more to state meet

SEATTLE – Eight for state.
The Bainbridge Spartans notched state-qualifying times in eight events as BHS beat Roosevelt 114-65 in boys swimming and diving late last week.
The lopsided match at Evans Pool in Seattle saw the Spartans speed past the entry mark for the 3A state championships in the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard breaststroke.
In the 200-yard free, Parker Bushey swam to first place with a state time of 1:51.89.
Teammate Henry Bacon was second in 2:03.77, and also advanced to state. (The qualifying time is 2:06.20).
Sam Alpaugh and Adrien Chaussabel also earned a shot at state in the 200-yard IM.
Alpaugh won the race in 2:16.56, and Chaussabel was second in 2:18.37. (The qualifying time is 2:23.20).
In the 50-yard free, Andy Yalung was first in 24.36, and fellow Spartan Miles Hogger was third in 25.25. Both were state-qualifying times (the 3A mark is 25.30).
Bainbridge also saw state-worthy swims in the 100-yard butterfly from Jem Bullock, who won in 57.59, and Sam Chapman, who took third place in 1:02.68. (The qualifying time is 1:04.50).
In the 100-yard free, Bushey also qualified for the state championships by passing the state mark of 57.50 with a 50.75 finish against Roosevelt, where Bushey came in second.
Bacon was fourth, with a time of 55.22.
Bullock and Chapman won first and second in the 500-yard free, with Bullock winning the race in 5:22.31, and Chapman clocking in at 5:25.00.
(The qualifying time is 5:39.00).
Alpaugh claimed second place, and a state berth, in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.50, well in front of the qualifying time of 1:06.90.
The Spartans took first, second and third in the 100-yard breaststroke with state times from Chaussebel (1:08.74), Cole Sander (1:09.24) and Jack Kapel (1:10.78).
