Turnout passes 50 percent for Bainbridge in General Election

More than 9,100 ballots have been counted from Bainbridge Island voters so far for the 2015 General Election.
Turnout for the election on Bainbridge now stands at 50.8 percent. Countywide, approximately 37.7 percent of registered voters participated in last week’s election.
The Kitsap County Elections Division updated its vote count late Monday. Another tally is expected by 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, with an estimated 350 ballots left to count.
There have been no turnarounds in Bainbridge race results since the first vote tally on Election Night.
Proposition 1, the city’s proposal for a $15 million bond measure to pay for a new public safety facility, was still losing at greater-than-landslide proportions in the most recent count.
A total of 9,102 ballots have been counted so far, and Prop. 1 is losing with 75.5 percent of Bainbridge voters rejecting the measure. The “yes” vote received 24.5 percent of the vote.
The updated vote count on Prop. 1 is 6,876 votes against the measure, and 2,226 in favor.
In the race for the at-large, District 1 seat on the Bainbridge Island City Council, Ron Peltier sill leads with 54.9 percent of the vote.
Pegeen Mulhern had 44.8 percent in Monday’s count.
The count stands at 4,789 votes for Peltier, and 3,911 votes for Mulhern — a difference of 878 votes.
Lynn Smith has won the race for the District 1 seat on the Bainbridge Island School Board.
Smith had 69.8 percent of the vote in the latest tally, leading fellow candidate Duncan C. Macfarlane, who had 29.8 percent.
The vote count is 5,120 votes for Smith, and 2,185 for Macfarlane.
Incumbent Bainbridge School Board Member Tim Kinkead retained his District 4 seat on the board with 71.5 percent of the vote over challenger Renard E. Burnett Sr., who collected 28 percent of the vote.
The updated vote count is 4,750 votes for Kinkead, and 1,860 votes of Burnett.
The gap in the race for the Position 2 seat on the board of commissioners for the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District has closed a bit since Election Night.
Incumbent Commission Ken DeWitt remains in front with 50.7 percent of the vote over challenger John Grinter, who has 48.8 percent of the vote.
The vote count is 3,887 votes for DeWitt, and 2,742 for Grinter.
The tally in the race has tightened since the first vote count on Nov. 3, when DeWitt had 52.8 percent of the vote, and Grinter, 46.8.
In the other contested Bainbridge race, Sarah Lee has retained her seat in the Position 3 seat on the Kitsap County Sewer District No. 7 Board of Commissioners.
Lee had 80.6 percent of the vote in the most recent count, and challenger Mary Victoria Dombrowski had 19 percent.
