The Bainbridge Island Historical Museum is hosting a talk about the ongoing Yama Village archaeological dig, presented by Robert Drolet, professor of anthropology at Olympic College.

The talk will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12 at the St. Barnabas Parish Hall, 1187 Wyatt Way NW.

The event is free to the public.

Drolet will summarize the first summer’s accomplishments at the dig site at Port Blakely by anthropology students at Olympic College, which he headed.

The three-year project is an effort to preserve the site of Yama, the immigrant Japanese village at the time of the Port Blakely Mill, which was founded in 1864 and produced lumber until 1922.

The museum has partnered with Olympic College, the Bainbridge Island Metro Parks & Recreation, Bainbridge Island Japanese American Community, Bainbridge Island Historic Preservation Commission and Kitsap County Historical Society and Museum.
