The Bainbridge Island City Council approved a purchase agreement Tuesday with the owner of property north of city hall to be used as the location for a new public safety building.
The city has been negotiating with the property owner for weeks, and the council agreed to buy the land for $1.1 million.
Completion of the sale hinges on voters approving a $15 million bond sale during the Nov. 3 General Election that would provide financing for a combined police station/municipal court.
The property is located at 328 Madison Ave. North and is owned by JHP Investments of Bainbridge Island.
There are two lots the city is interested in; both span .19 acres.
One lot has a 2015 assessed value of $435,130, according to the Kitsap County Assessor’s Office.
The other lot has a 2015 assessed value of $308,470.
The agreement was approved unanimously by the council, 5-0, on Aug. 11.
Councilman Roger Townsend and Councilwoman Anne Blair were absent.
