City plans anniversary celebration

The city of Bainbridge Island will turn 25 in the fall of 2016 — and the city council wants to plan a party.

At Tuesday’s city council meeting, it was the consensus of the council that plans should begin soon for the city’s celebration of its 25th anniversary of incorporation. The entire island became the city of Bainbridge Island in November 1991.

But because the city’s community engagement specialist Kellie Stickney is on vacation and was not at the meeting, the council put off any discussion and decisions about the celebration until she returns.

When she returns, Stickney also is expected to update the council on the progression of the re-design of the city’s new logo.

The original logo wasn’t well-liked and comments from the public were taken into consideration by the South Carolina firm selected to create the logo.

A revision is expected to come back to the city council within a few weeks.
