Online startup to offer discount tickets for local movies

Going to the movies is as American as apple pie, but a lot more expensive.

According to a recent Forbes article, the average cost of a single movie ticket reached an all-time high last year. According to the National Association of Theater Owners, the average ticket price in the U.S. was $8.38 in 2013.

It’s a trend that’s hurting everyone, including most smaller theaters. One online startup, however, is attempting to restore this American tradition to it’s rightful place in our culture.

At least three theaters on and near Bainbridge Island are offering discount tickets and concessions through the online service Dealflicks.

“Dealflicks is a top 500 startup, seed funded, and highly buzzed about startup,” said Dealflicks spokeswoman Isabella Gradney. “We take the large inventory of empty theater seats and sell it to the public at up to 65 percent off the original price. We have 320-plus theaters nationwide, adding one to two everyday.”

Founded in 2012, Dealflicks, headquartered in Los Angeles, California, is attempting to give back the theaters to the movie-going public through a combination of discount tickets and concession packages.

Discount tickets for showings at Bainbridge Cinemas, Lynwood Theater and Olympic Theater in Bremerton are now available.
