Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter:
Wednesday, Sept. 10
8:44 a.m. A resident found a white motorcycle standing upright in his driveway and the gate to the driveway laying in the yard.
The lawn was dug up and there was dirt and debris scattered about the pavement. Blood was also found on several areas of the motorcycle.
After running the license plate, police contacted the motorcyclist and were told that he hit some dirt or sand in the road and the bike went down.
The story did not make sense, though, since there were skid marks that went through an intersection and into the resident’s yard. The motorcyclist continued to claim he was going 40 mph. The skid marks measured 55 feet, and the motorcycle traveled another 46 feet to the gated property. A calculation of speed lost from skids, totaled between 32 and 35 mph.
The motorcycle still had enough momentum to shear off an address post, the gate and gate post and traveled an additional 62 feet.
The motorcyclist was told the incident was considered a hit-and-run.
11:57 a.m. An iPhone was thrown out of the driver’s side window of an SUV as it traveled westbound on Wing Point Way.
A couple that was walking nearby saw the incident and retrieved the phone, which was destroyed. The face was broken and the two halves of the phone were broken.
The couple did not get a license number for the vehicle, but turned in the phone to police.
Tuesday, Sept. 16
8:06 a.m. A resident called police after finding what he thought was a bullet hole in one of the upstairs windows of his home.
It appeared that a rock had hit the window at an angle causing the outer pane to break. The resident was concerned that the damage could be related to an incident that happened two weeks earlier. He had a neighborhood party, and one of the guests parked on his neighbor’s property.
The neighbor became upset and confronted both the guest and the resident.
In the exchange, the resident called the neighbor “trailer trash” and the neighbor said he did not like gays living next to him. The tension continued on Sept. 15 when the neighbor approached the resident at their mailboxes.
The neighbor yelled “You’re gonna pay, little big man” three times. He also wanted to “fight it out” with the resident, to which the resident said no.
