BAINBRIDGE – The Bainbridge High varsity girls golf team scored a solid victory over Eastside Catholic in their first match of the season Thursday, Sept. 4.
The final score was 95-73 Bainbridge.
It was a crucial first step in the right direction for this season’s squad, which is a very young team consisting of no seniors and several new players.
Team captain BHS junior Claire Lunzer led the team with 27 points.
Several other Spartans made meaningful point contributions as well.
Grace Nelson finished with 25 points, Sophia Smith managed 22 and Kiera Havill contributed 21 points as well.
The overall best player of the match, however, was Eastside Catholic’s McKenna Bolt, who finished the day with 34 points.
The BHS girls golf team has been named Metro League champs in two of the last four years, according to Head Coach Ian Havill. The team’s combined season records for those four years is 38-1-1.
The Spartans will play next on the road against Cheif Sealth Friday, Sept. 12, then again at Jackson Park Golf Club against Bishop Blanchet Monday, Sept. 15.
The team will play at home again against the combined team of O’Dea and Holy Names at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18 at Wing Point Country Club.
