Douglas fir trees are stacked near the edge of a clearing area near High School Road Wednesday after work began to remove trees from an 8.14-acre property that will be developed with a shopping center.

Visconsi Companies, an Ohio-based development firm, began clear-cutting a forest on Bainbridge Island on Wednesday, Aug. 20 near High School Road and Highway 305. The land will be used for a shopping center.
