City to unveil Olympic Drive options

City officials are looking for input about upcoming improvements to Olympic Drive near the Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal.
The city’s public works department is hosting a public meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 30 in the city council chamber to get comments on different options for pedestrian and bicycle improvements that are planned.
Proposed design features include a non-motorized pathway and/or sidewalk widening, accessibility improvements, bike lanes or shared lanes, painted bike boxes, center divider curbing, street lighting improvements, signal modifications and landscaping.
During the meeting, the city will present conceptual drawings of alternative improvement ideas before developing the final design.
This meeting is the second in a series of public meetings that started in October 2013.
At the first meeting, the public was asked to provide feedback prior to defining the project’s scope.
The city’s Non-Motorized Transportation Committee assisted in selecting and developing different proposals the public will be asked to provide feedback on at the July 30 meeting.
The project is being funded by the state of Washington through a grant program managed by the Washington State Department of Transportation’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Program.
