Bethany Lutheran Church is asking residents with a dusty bike or spare parts in the garage to donate to Bicycles for Humanity.

Bainbridge bicycles will be shipped to South Africa to those in need, such as AIDS patients, medical workers and orphans.

Bicycles for Humanity is a Washington-based nonprofit dedicated to donating thousands of bikes to South Africa every year to help improve the quality of life in impoverished regions.

Donors can drop off items at the church located at 7985 Finch Road NE from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 21.

Volunteers ask that donated bikes have good frames. Tires and the remainder of the bike may be in any condition, though.

A free used bicycle rack will be given to donors while supplies last.
