New signs put up on Fort Ward Hill

The city of Bainbridge Island has installed new signage at Fort Ward Hill near South Beach Road.
The new signs were raised in response to concerns from residents, and are designed to alert drivers to truck traffic, primarily from the Icicle Seafoods fish farm. The roadway at this intersection is steep and narrow, and neighbors were concerned that large trucks tended to cross the centerline at curbs when turning.
The new signage will allow Icicle Seafoods’ employees to alert drivers and bicyclists when truck traffic is occurring by flipping down the signs to read “Caution Truck Traffic Ahead.”
Red flags have also been provided initially to alert the public to the new signage.
