The Washington State Liquor Control Board will hear recommendations from staff on marijuana licensing issues at the board’s meeting this week.
Staff for the board will seek approval for its recommended next steps in its preparation to begin issuing producer and processor licenses. Officials said staff will address two issues: plant canopy for marijuana production, and bans and moratoriums.
Officials said that under Washington State Liquor Control Board rules, total plant canopy for marijuana growers is not to exceed 2 million square feet. Based on a review of a portion of the more than 2,800 producer applications, however, the total square foot canopy currently exceeds 2 million.
The board will also look at bans and moratoriums, since several communities have banned marijuana businesses in their communities or have put temporary moratoriums in place.
The Washington State Liquor Control Board will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19 in the WSLCB Board Room, 3000 Pacific Ave., Olympia.
