Spartans slayed by Eastside Crusaders in varsity football

The Bainbridge Spartans just barely managed a late fourth-quarter touchdown — scoring for the first time with 2:19 remaining — to avoid a shutout in their home game against the Eastside Catholic Crusaders Friday.

The final score was 49-6 Eastside.

Still, the Spartans gained some ground.

“We’re getting there,” said Spartan senior offensive lineman Ryan Comstock.

It was a grueling game for a team that had several usual Bainbridge starters, Comstock included,  temporarily benched for minor injuries this week.

“We’re trying,” he said. “Once we get everyone healthy, we’ll be there.”

BHS plays its next game Saturday, Oct. 5, on the road against Bishop Blanchet High. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
