You can’t beat Bainbridge: BIFC U13 Boys Blue Team on a winning streak

The Bainbridge Island Football Club’s U13 Boys Blue Team dominated the competition in the 2013 Island Cup Tournament, held this past weekend at various venues around the island.

The U13 Blue team went so far as to move up an age bracket to test their skills against an older and more experienced team.

Experience, however, was not enough for the North Kitsap Force 99’s U14 Boys team who, in the finals on Sunday, were beaten by the Blues with a final score of 5-1.

The Blues outscored their older opponents by a cumulative margin of 17-4.

More than 70 teams from around Puget Sound, Oregon and British Columbia came to the island to compete in age brackets ranging from 9 to 14, both boys and girls.

This makes two victorious weekends in a row for the Bainbridge Island Football Club team, as the Blues also ran away with a win at the Mount Hood Challenge, held last weekend in Portland, Ore.

The Blues emerged victorious from every game in its division, ending with a well-earned 2-1 victory over the Westside Timbers from Beaverton’s Premiere League.

More than 600 teams from around the country competed in the challenge, allowing the Bainbridge boys to see a variety of styles of play in a highly competitive setting and compete within multiple venues.

Led by strikers Evan Starke and Andrew Masters Rao, the Blues feature a lightening-fast scoring duo ahead of a balanced and tenacious defense led by the phenomenal goal keeping of Andy Becker and a wave of backline defenders.

BIFC Blue is coached by Tim Self, Simon Hung and Zack Connor. Their regular season begins Sept. 7.
