The city of Bainbridge Island will present its five finalists for the job of police chief at a reception next week.

The five candidates were found after a nationwide search that attracted more than 50 applicants.

City officials said the hopefuls will attend interviews with the city manager, key staff and representatives from other law enforcement agencies, island governmental agencies and a citizen panel.

The recruitment process is being coordinated by Strategic Government Resources, a Texas-based executive search firm that specializes in public sector recruitment. Strategic Government Resources is the headhunting firm that found current City Manager Doug Schulze.

The new police chief will replace Jon Felhman, who resigned late last year from his position as the city’s top cop. The Bainbridge Island Police Department is currently led by Interim Public Safety Director Larry Dickerson.

The public is invited to the reception, which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 4, in council chambers at city hall.
