Commissioners for the Bainbridge Island Fire Department will consider offering an employment contract to a former fire commissioner to return as the department’s new business administrator at their next meeting.

Officials will discuss a three-year agreement with Susan Cohen at the board meeting Wednesday, July 18.

Cohen formerly served in the Position 3 seat on the board of commissioners. She resigned Feb. 17 with the hope of gaining eventual employment with the fire department.

If the board approves the employment agreement, Cohen would start work Aug. 1.

The draft agreement does not include a salary level. Ed Kaufman, finance administrator for the fire department, said the contract was still being negotiated and would be finalized at the board meeting.

The fire department said the salary range for the position was $81,634 to $102,042 when it advertised for the job earlier this year.

The commissioners’ meeting begins at 6 p.m. Commissioners will discuss the contract after a 15-minute executive session wraps up at 6:45 p.m.
