Two downtown Winslow businesses were burglarized overnight last week and a thief carried away the cash register from one of the shops.
Island Vintners on Winslow Way and Ericksen Avenue Salon were both hit on Tuesday, April 17.
Someone apparently used a crowbar-type tool to force open the rear door of the Island Vintners tasting room. Thieves then took the store’s cash register, as well as an Island Vintners fleece jacket.
The store never keeps excessive money in its register, so the cash lost was less than $200, according to a police report on the crime. The register itself was valued at approximately $200.
The tasting room carries the products of three of the islands popular and award-winning artisan wineries, including Amelia Wynn, Fletcher Bay and Victor Alexander. No bottles of wine appeared to be missing, however.
The same night, person or persons unknown also broke into the Ericksen Avenue Salon using the same crowbar-style method to force their way through the rear door of the business.
While the business was entered, nothing was taken.
