BHS grad arrested for alleged rape

Bainbridge Island High School graduate Leandre Fischer, 22, was arrested April 14 by the Western Washington University Police on a Kitsap County warrant for the alleged rape of a child in the first and third degrees.
Child rape in the first degree involves a victim under the age of 12 and is a class A felony, and child rape in the third degree involves a victim between the ages of 14 and 16 and is a class C felony, according to Washington state law.
Bainbridge Island Police Cmdr. Sue Shultz said the alleged crimes were committed on the island over the course of seven years. One victim is identified at this time.
Fischer knew the victim personally, who recently came forward to the police about the incidents.
Fischer was arrested at 10:29 p.m. in Bellingham and booked at the Whatcom County Jail with bail set at $500,000, according to the WWU newspaper.
Fischer graduated from Bainbridge Island High School in 2007 and is currently a senior at WWU with a major in philosophy.
A class A felony is punishable by a maximum of life in prison and a $50,000 fine.
Class C felonies are punishable by a maximum of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
