Catch a cop, dunk a cop: Bainbridge Police hosts ‘Night Out.’

Bainbridge Police hope safety is the take-home message from Tuesday’s “National Night Out,” but they know a dunk tank featuring a judge and an officer is a sure bet for boosting attendance.
“This will be a lot of fun, but the event will also have a serious side,” BIPD Lt. Denise Giuntoli said. “It gives residents a chance to get to know their public safety officers, learn how to prevent crime and drug use, strengthen their neighborhood safety nets, and send a message that the community is unified to fight crime.”
Dousing a public official is just one of many activities – both fun and educational – that BIPD has in store for the evening. The event will run from 6 to 9 p.m. outside City Hall.
The public is invited to meet officers from local police, fire, K9, bomb squad and marine safety units.
A presentation of teen safety techniques will be featured and West Sound Wildlife Shelter will have its owl, Orien, on hand for a talk on co-existing with wildlife. More information will be available from a variety of booths.
Other entertaining diversions will include softball pitching, sidewalk chalk drawing and bubble blowing.
Music, food and raffle drawings will round out the night of fun.
