Bainbridge Majors still alive in state tournament

For the second straight day, the Bainbridge Major all-stars extended their season for at least one more game.

Friday evening Bainbridge took on Richmond, and the team brought its bats. A nine-run third and a seven-run fourth propelled Bainbridge to a 22-12 win over Richmond.

Now three games remain in between Bainbridge and a state championship. The team plays Pasco, which lost 8-7 to Mercer Island Friday, Saturday at 2:30 p.m. If Bainbridge wins that game, the team would then have to beat Mercer Island, the only team that beat Bainbridge in the tournament, twice on Sunday. That team would also be coming off a day of rest following a Friday night victory.

Bainbridge was up 6-3 entering the third, and then the team turned it on offensively. Nine runs, including a couple home runs, turned the game into a blow out.

But Richmond, playing for the fourth day in a row didn’t want to quit. Richmond matched Bainbridge’s nine-run explosion with one of its own, cutting the deficit to 15-12. But Bainbridge wasn’t going to allow Richmond back into the game. Seven more runs in the fourth inning gave Bainbridge a 10-run lead and ended the game on the 10-run mercy rule.
