Bainbridge baseball coach Jason Gore has been named 2009 Coach of the Year by sports writers representing the Kitsap News Group after the Spartans advanced to the 3A state championship game before losing 10-3 to O’Dea.
BHS pitcher-outfielder Colin Feldtman and third baseman Will Martin were also named to the 2009 All-Kitsap County Baseball Team. Spartans Tanner Bogardus, Brendan Gawlowski, Mario McLaughlin and Colby Morse were honorable mention selections.
Feldtman led the Spartans into the playoffs with five consecutive complete games to end the season. His pitching ERA was 1.21 and he also hit .421 with 16 RBI. Martin finished the regular season with a .500 batting average in 50 plate appearances, hitting three home runs to go with a team-high 21 RBI.
Gore led Bainbridge to a 19-8 record in his 10th season at head coach. The Spartans defeated top-ranked Timberline 4-2 to advance to the title game at Safeco Field.
