Yeomalt needs $13K for cabin

The restoration of Yeomalt Cabin, listed on the National Historic Register, will begin its first phase of construction as soon as at least $13,850 in donations are deposited in the Bainbridge Island Park Foundation’s Yeomalt Cabin Fund.

At their April 24 meeting, park commissioners approved doing the project in phases, proceeding when there is money in the fund to cover each phase. The board’s finance committee will report to commissioners on May 3 if there’s enough funding to begin the first phase of construction.

“It sure would be great to fill that gap by May 3,” said Clo Copass, Team Yeomalt’s finance sub-committee chair.

Professional house movers, log building specialists and historic preservation carpenters are ready to complete the major work – foundation, chimney stabilization, wall logs and new roof.

The project’s construction and finance sub-committee’s have been scrambling since word came in two weeks ago – four months after groundbreaking ceremonies – suggesting that the project might need another $100,000.

Donations to “Yeomalt Cabin Fund” can be sent to BI Park Foundation, PO Box 10010, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110.
