Sports Roundup – Hoopsters take fifth at Metro tournament/Sign up now for HOOPFEST

Both teams started districts yesterday with games at Ingraham.

Both Bainbridge basketball teams came away with wins in the Metro League tournament Saturday at Roosevelt High School in Seattle.

For the boys, they defeated Bishop Blanchet 54-49 to earn fifth place.

The Spartans led 21-14 after the first quarter and traded baskets with the Braves the rest of the way.

Mike Walsh led Bainbridge with 13 points, while Caleb Davis had 11 and Ben Eisenhardt scored 10.

Nick Fling and Jesse Powell added eight points each.

For the girls, they defeated Rainier Beach 63-57 to take the fifth seed.

Up by nine at the half, Bainbridge held the Vikings in check in the third quarter, allowing just six points.

The Spartans got big games from Brittany Gray and Anna Wood, who scored 21 and 20 points respectively.

Emily Farrar added 16.

The girls played yesterday against Newport while the boys took on Skyline.

If the girls won, they play Lakeside tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at Bellevue Community College.

If the boys won, they take on Rainier Beach at 8:15 p.m. at BCC.

The Bainbridge School Foundation is taking registrations for their annual HOOPFEST 3-on-3 tournament, which is March 2 at Paski Gymnasium.

The tournament, which benefits the Foundation, is open to all boys and girls in grades 3 through 12.

All players will play at least three games and receive a HOOPFEST t-shirt.

Registration can be done through the foundation’s website at www.bainbridgeschoolsfoundation.org where a form is available to download.

Space is limited, with all entries received by Friday will be guaranteed a tournament spot.
