Baseball battles to tie with Vikings
POULSBO – In the initial non-conference game of the season , the Bainbridge Spartans and the North Kitsap Vikings duked it out Monday only to end in a 5-5 tie after the game was called on account of limited light.
The Spartans’ offensive attack struck first in the first inning when C.J. Hall ripped an RBI single, rolling Matt Frazee within 90 feet of home plate.
Frazee then stole home when pitcher Jordan Prince turned his back attempting to pick off a runner at first base to increase the lead to 2-0.
In the fourth, Hall ripped an RBI triple off Prince, then scored on a RBI single to make it 4-1.
The Viking defense allowed one more run in the fourth, but North’s offense made a charge, scoring two in their half of the fourth.
In the bottom of the fifth, Prince tied the game with an RBI double and Jordan Nakaya rounded third looking to score. But after a slip on the grass, Nakaya found himself in a run-down and the go-ahead run was spoiled.
Matt Frieboth picked it up on the next at-bat with a sacrifice fly, scoring Prince for the lead.
Brenden Gent pulled an RBI double down the third base line to tie the game in the next inning.
After North threatened with a lead-off single and a bunt to move runners into scoring position in the sixth, Frazee, who came in for relief, put the game away with a ground-out.
Bainbridge travels to Garfield Wednesday, then hosts Rainier Beach Friday.

Girls tennis gets win versus NK
POULSBO — The first match of the season is always a little shaky, Bainbridge girls head coach Mike Anderson said.
But it was well worth the trip as the Spartans picked up not only the 4-2 team win, but also some lessons learned.
Bainbridge top singles player Molly Donohue picked up the experience of competing against a low-velocity opponent in Britt Seaburg, while the Spartans’ top doubles team — Jamie Slanaker and Taylor Raguer — faced off against North’s top doubles team of Joanna Kaiserman and Kearney Bangs.
Seaburg’s change of pace gave her the upper hand in the match against Donohue, as she closed out 6-4, 6-2.
In the only other singles action of the afternoon, Spartan Anna Judson defeated Sarah Kiesinger solidly, 6-2, 6-2.
Bainbridge had a near deadlock on the doubles as they took three out of the four matchups and took Slanaker and Raguer to a split.
The Spartans host Eastside Catholic today, then travel to Lakeside on Friday.
