Spring season brings fresh faces, cool camps to Meadowmeer

BAINBRIDGE – Meadowmeer Golf & Country Club has hired David Tunkkari as the new club pro.

A well-known local PGA professional, Tunkkari has been associated in the past with Wing Point Golf Club and White Horse. He will be taking over the management of the ProShop and the club’s various golf programs, as well as individual golf instruction by appointment.

Also new to Meadowmeer this year is the lineup of special junior golf programs this summer.

The club will start with summer Junior Golf Camps. These three-day camps are designed for beginning to intermediate skilled youth, ages 7-12. They will cover the fundamentals of the game. Driving, iron play, pitching, chipping, putting and bunker play will all be covered. There will also be a major focus on the rules of golf, course etiquette and on course strategy.

Each clinic will be two hours in length with healthy snacks and water being served each day. The clinics will be small in class size to allow for individual instruction and time on the golf course. Students are encouraged to bring their own golf clubs, but clubs will be provided for those students that don’t have clubs.

The club dates are June 26-28, July 10-12 and Aug. 7-9.

The cost is $100, which includes a hat and shirt. Instruction will be led by Tunkkari. The clinics will take place from 10 a.m. to noon each day. Call the golf shop (206-842-2218) or email Tunkkari (dtunkkari@gmail.com) to sign up. Registration will take place on the first day of camp at 9:30 a.m.

For the adult duffers, Saturday morning competitions are back in season and now are ongoing. In addition, there is a regular Wednesday morning competition for men. Players can simply show up between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. and put some money into the competition. Individual format varies week-to-week.
