Bainbridge divers make national team

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Members of the Bainbridge Island Dive Club qualified for Nationals in Florida this summer with top performances at the Amateur Athletic Union’s Red White Blue Red North Qualifier in Salt Lake City on March 17.

The meet was a qualifier for divers to be on the 2018 AAU National Team for Nationals, and was an intense, one-day event with divers competing on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards on the same day.

In Girls Group C, Elyse Lipton placed third on the 1-meter with a score of 199.20 and was sixth in the 3-meter with a score of 235.40. Lipton qualified for 2018 AAU National Team on both boards.

In Girls Group B, Bryn Tiernan placed seventh in 1-meter diving with a score of 203.70. Teammate Mia Alpaugh was 11th with a point total of 108.55.

In 3-meter diving, Tiernan was sixth with a score of 227.75 and qualified for 2018 AAU National Team. Alpaugh finished in eighth place with a score of 166.60.

In Girls Group A (18-19), Alathea Pippinger placed eighth on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, scoring 236.80 and 208.90, respectively.

In Boys Group B, Brian Taylor claimed third place in both 1-meter and 3-meter diving, with scores of 274.35 and 295.20. He qualified for 2018 AAU National Team on both boards.

In Boy Group A (16-17), Bainbridge’s Kiernan Liberman placed second on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards with scores of 343.35 and 371.85. Kiernan also qualified for 2018 AAU National Team in both 1-meter and 3-meter diving.
